CHÉOS Scientist Dr. Martha Mackay recently received the Katherine M. MacMillan Nursing Research Scholar Award from the UBC School of Nursing.
Dr. Mackay, who is a Clinical Associate Professor at UBC and Clinical Nurse Specialist at St. Paul’s Hospital Heart Centre, studies the impact of numerous factors, including behavioural, sex-based, and ethnic differences, on cardiac health and access to care. Most recently, Dr. Mackay is involved in testing an e-health intervention for cardiac patients experiencing depression.
The five-year scholar award supports research carried out by UBC Nursing faculty and will further support Dr. Mackay’s contributions to research related to cardiovascular health.
“I’m very grateful for this award from the School of Nursing,” said Dr. Mackay in an interview with PHC News.
“I’m confident it will catalyze my research program, which aims to take a look at common, yet understudied issues in the care of heart patients and to find solutions that work for both patients and the health care system.”
