Kathryn V. Isaac
Scientist, MD, FRCSC, MPH
Dr. Kathryn Isaac is the Patricia Clugston Chair of the Breast Reconstruction Research Program at the University of British Columbia. A plastic and reconstructive surgeon, she is committed to improving health outcomes for breast cancer patients seeking reconstruction. Her research is rooted in health services and outcomes science, with a focus on equitable, timely, and personalized care throughout the cancer journey and survivorship.

As Chair, Dr. Isaac leads clinical research across five key domains: system and process analysis, centralized care optimization, outcomes research, patient-oriented research, and translational research support. She actively collaborates across disciplines including health economics, decision science, and knowledge translation, and supports the design and implementation of clinical trials. Dr. Isaac is also dedicated to mentoring graduate students and emerging health researchers.
Dr. Isaac completed her medical degree and residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto, followed by a craniofacial fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital and subspecialty training in breast reconstruction at the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg. She also holds a Master of Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Since relocating to Vancouver in 2018, she has been providing surgical care through Vancouver Coastal Health and Providence Health Care.
