Goodbye WiP, hello Advancing Health Talks: Exciting change is on the horizon!

Over the last decade, the Work in Progress (WiP) Series has showcased cutting-edge research by Advancing Health investigators and provided our audience a glimpse into work that has inspired change, influenced policy, and sparked new ways of looking at old issues.

Originally launched as a format to present “work in progress” with fellow centre scientists providing feedback, the structure of the WiP Series has shifted over the years to allow for the presentation of work that had been published. With 401 presentations and over 4,600 viewers, we have evaluated what has worked and what hasn’t as we grow to accommodate larger-scale discussions on topics that matter, as well as focused offerings where advice and guidance are shared.

This is why we’re evolving. Starting this fall, we’re launching “Advancing Health Talks.” A series that will feature multiple guest speakers and panel discussions on current ‘hot topics’ in health research and focus areas, as well as “in the news” presentations.

What will happen to the WiP series? It will be returning to its roots as we provide smaller, more personal opportunities for our Advancing Health investigators and trainees to receive feedback from experts in their fields, including methodology, Knowledge Translation, statistics, and more.

Make sure you’ve signed up for our newsletter to stay informed about the first Advancing Health Talks event. And if you are an Advancing Health Scientist and interested in a personalized WiP session with an invite-only panel to provide feedback on a study in the planning stages, or a work in progress, email mdavies@advancinghealth.ubc.ca.
